Mission Statement

Bipartisan Disagreement combats interpersonal political polarization by promoting open-minded,
good-faith, and productive discussion to encourage a deeper understanding of all perspectives.

What We Do

Bipartisan Disagreement is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that was originally founded as a student organization at Northeastern University in 2020. Today, we advise and support grassroots chapters of students in hosting in-person discussions that adhere to a code of ethics. In doing so, we utilize chapters as unique laboratories to experiment with depolarization strategies that can later be implemented in future discussions.

The urgent need for constructive dialogue and collaboration across party lines has become apparent. In today’s polarized environment, well-meaning people often find themselves entrenched in echo chambers, reinforcing their beliefs and dismissing opposing perspectives.ย Bipartisan Disagreement encourages genuine dialogue, allowing individuals to engage in constructive disagreements that promote understanding by de-escalating the polarization that impedes communication.

Participants adhere to a code of ethics that members craft at the first in-person discussion meeting of the semester. Our chapters also produce digital content to advance our mission.

Get In Touch or Start a Chapter

Starting a chapter of Bipartisan Disagreement is a proven way to build a community, develop professional and leadership skills that employers prefer, and be a part of a movement that is truly making a better tomorrow. You will be joining a developing network of chapters that share ideas, successes, and failures in the hopes of constantly innovating our interpersonal dispute resolution strategies.

Each chapter is grassroots and is responsible for establishing its own identity. Don’t worry, though, we will provide everything you need to get started. Our national staff is rapidly growing, so every chapter will be assigned a BD alumni advisor who will work directly with the local executive board to ensure that recruiting, discussions, and other events go smoothly.
