An email was sent by the office of the Senior Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Sept. 16 to all undergraduate students concerning recent behavior in Roxbury and Mission Hill during the first week of classes. 

Large groups of students reportedly gathered on the streets at night, causing disruptions and endangering themselves and others. The email noted that there were “multiple 911 calls reporting publicly intoxicated Northeastern students putting themselves in harm’s way.” 

A resident of Hillside Street on Mission Hill and student of D’amore-McKim described the scene as “hordes of freshmen stumbling around and making circles like it was assembly time at their old high school.”

Another student on Mission Hill noted that there were many younger students who had not been able to learn from the typical first college experiences and were especially eager to begin collecting memories since the pandemic had calmed down considerably. 

The email promised a larger and more intolerant police and security presence to combat the unsafe behavior. There has been no more communication from the senior vice chancellor’s office concerning the matter since.
